Temenos
A simple hill on which a grove of trees stood in the New Mexico mountains east of Mora, burned their stands into J. Larry Nance’s memory driving a series of drawings and paintings and sculptures emphasizing their symmetry, their simplicity of form, and their capacity to project an idealized, universal, easily recognized form all of which hint at something eternal. His paintings are “holy grove” icons. The Temenos are distilled further in the “Arks” in which are contained the essence of the Grove, the living spirit of the elusive, but real Universe as universal, endless but at the same time, contained.
