NGC 5139: Max Corneau
3 (ω Cen) or NGC 5139 is a globular cluster caught in Max’s camera. It is located in the constellation Centaurus.
It is measured at 15,800 light-years (4,850 pc) from Earth made up of several million Population II stars. ω Cen is about 12 billion years old. Its center stars are only 0.1 light years away from each other.
This brightest and largest known globular cluster associated with our galaxy orbits our Milky Way and is one of the few globular clusters visible to the naked eye. Kapteyn's star, 13 light years away, is believed to originate from Omega Centauri.
